Are you aware of QLD speeding fines and the implications of being charged with a high speed offence? Most of us have had a speeding fine at one time or another, perhaps just straying over the limit, and have had to pay a fine and lost some demerit points. If however, you were significantly over the limit, specifically more than 40km per hour, then you face losing your licence as it is classed a high speed offence. If you would like more information on the penalties for speeding, call GC Traffic Lawyers now on 07 5528 6665.

QLD speeding fines – what are the penalties?

Below is an outline of the speeding fines and demerit points you would receive for the different amounts over the speed limit:

  • Less than 13km per hour over the speed limit:
    $162 + 1 demerit point.
  • At least 13km per hour but not more than 20km per hour over the speed limit:
    $243 + 3 demerit points.
  • More than 20km per hour but not more than 30km per hour over the speed limit:
    $406 + 4 demerit points.
  • More than 30km per hour but not more than 40km per hour over the speed limit:
    $568 + 6 demerit points.
  • More than 40km per hour over the speed limit:
    $1,137 + 8 demerit points and 6 month suspension.

So, the higher the level of speeding, the greater the penalty. If you are caught driving more than 40km per hour over the limit, you will be charged with a high speed offence and you will be facing a minimum 6 month suspension in addition to the fine and demerit points. In this case, it is advisable that you appoint a traffic lawyer such as GC Traffic Lawyers to defend you in Court.
